Job Summary
Kutztown University of Pennsylvania enrolls approximately 7,500 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs. Located in a charming rural setting in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, the University is just a 20-minute drive from the metropolitan areas of Allentown/Bethlehem and Reading, and about an hour from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The University seeks to hire employees with experience working with diverse populations.
The Department of Biology at Kutztown University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Biology beginning in Fall 2026. The successful applicant will primarily serve students in our biology program and the Environmental Science/Biology and Environmental Science/Regenerative Organic Agriculture concentrations. They will be expected to teach introductory courses in biology and botany as well as advanced field-based courses, including Plant Taxonomy and/or Plant Physiology. The applicant would also be expected to develop courses in their area of expertise. The successful applicant will develop a research program involving plant biology and/or agricultural systems that includes undergraduates and mentor and advise BS Biology and BS Environmental Science students. Kutztown University has a strong collaborative relationship with the Rodale Institute and a state-of-the-art botanical research center to facilitate faculty and student research opportunities. Salary competitive. In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, performance review and evaluation of faculty is based on effective teaching and fulfillment of professional responsibilities, continuing scholarly growth, and service.
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in plant sciences or a related field.
- Research interests in sustainable agriculture - the successful applicant will develop a research program involving plant biology and/or agricultural systems that includes undergraduates
- At least one year of college-level teaching experience or equivalent
- Successful interview and demonstration of relevant ability
- Ability to teach introductory courses in biology and botany.
- Ability to teach advanced field-based courses, including Plant Taxonomy and/or Plant Physiology
- Ability to develop courses in the area of expertise
